As educators and therapists, we are living in the realized dreams of Sarah Bevier, M.S. CCC-SLP.
Sarah is the co-founder and CEO of SLP Toolkit, an educational software company, and co-founder of Bright Ideas Media, a hub for professional development.
An ASU graduate and former school-based SLP, she is passionate about developing innovative tools and content that streamlines workflows and empowers SLPs with practical, evidence-based strategies.
As we close out Women’s History Month, we’re honoring Sarah with endless gratitude for her dedication to the success of educators, therapists, and individuals with communication needs.
Take a look into her journey of creating multiple impactful businesses and inspiring a new wave of women leaders and entrepreneurs in speech, language, and hearing sciences.
As an SLP, I often felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of paperwork and the challenge of managing large caseloads. I realized that these administrative tasks were taking precious time away from what I loved most—working directly with my students.
This frustration sparked the idea for SLP Toolkit. I wanted to create a user-friendly platform that would streamline data collection, progress monitoring, and treatment planning, allowing SLPs like myself to focus more on student interaction and less on paperwork. By developing tools tailored to the unique needs of school-based SLPs, my goal was to enhance efficiency and, ultimately, improve outcomes for the students we serve. That same need for practical solutions led to Bright Ideas Media.
As school-based SLPs, we’re expected to know a little about everything, but most professional development is heavy on research and theory with little application. We needed something practical and relevant—something we could actually use the next day.
This led to the creation of SLP Summit, a bi-annual online conference that quickly gained a massive response. Seeing the demand for accessible, affordable, high-quality content, we built Bright Ideas Media as a platform to share ideas, strategies, and real-world solutions that truly support SLPs in their day-to-day work.
I think as women, we tend to struggle with imposter syndrome more than our male counterparts. When we started SLP Toolkit, I constantly sought advice and opportunities to learn—not just about running a business, but also about what my role should be as a leader.
With experience, I’ve grown more confident, but I’m still very aware of what I don’t know, and I’m not afraid to admit it. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that leadership isn’t about knowing everything—it’s about finding the right people. Surrounding myself with people who are smarter than me or have strengths in areas that I don’t has been key.
And just as important is trusting them to use their strengths. I think that, combined with following my instincts and using my knowledge of social language and interpersonal skills, has allowed me to lead in a way that feels authentic and effective.
I hope my work makes the lives of SLPs and educators easier, more efficient, and ultimately more fulfilling. School-based SLPs juggle massive caseloads, endless paperwork, and high expectations, often with limited support. I’ve been there, and I know how overwhelming it can be.
That’s why everything I create—whether it’s through SLP Toolkit or Bright Ideas Media—is designed to provide practical, real-world solutions that actually make a difference. With SLP Toolkit, the goal was to streamline data collection, progress monitoring, and treatment planning so SLPs could spend less time on paperwork and more time doing what they love—working with students. And with Bright Ideas Media, we wanted to provide professional development that isn’t just theory-based, but truly relevant and actionable.
We started SLP Summit to bring together SLPs to learn from each other, and that sense of community has been so rewarding. At the end of the day, I hope my work helps SLPs feel more confident, supported, and empowered. If we can lighten the load even a little, giving them back time and energy to focus on their students, then I consider that a huge win.
