Why Most Carryover Plans Don’t Work
The average carryover plan is either too long to read or too vague to act on.
“Support AAC use throughout the day” is not a plan. It’s a wish.
What busy classroom staff need is a plan that answers three questions before they have to ask them:
- What am I supposed to do? (The specific action)
- When am I supposed to do it? (The specific moment)
- What does success look like? (So they know they’re not doing it wrong)
The template is one page (print double sided). It uses plain language and focuses on two or three key communication partners, not the whole school.
How to Use This Template
Fill in one plan per student. Keep it to one page. Email it, print it, or share it … whatever works for your team.
Update it at least once a semester as the student’s communication grows. When you hand it to a new teacher, spend five minutes walking through it together. Those five minutes are worth more than any written explanation.
For parents, there’s a home section built in. Keep it simple. The goal is momentum, not perfection.
