Transcript of “Welcome to Bright Conversations!” – Bright Conversations Podcast

Shontaye: Hi and welcome to Bright Conversations!

Sarah: I'm Sarah, co-founder of SLP Toolkit and Bright Ideas Media.

Shontaye: And I'm Shontaye Glover from Bright Ideas Media.

Sarah: We’re super excited to introduce you to our new virtual talk series, Bright Conversations—a digital talk series for SLPs, educators, and more.

Shontaye: I'm so excited we’re doing this! It’s meant to be a brief conversation about topics that are relevant, timely, and important. The great thing is, you can watch it or just listen.

Sarah: Yeah! If you're familiar with Bright Ideas Media, we offer live and pre-recorded courses on a variety of topics. But we thought this would be a new and fun way to learn—by listening to conversations with professionals who are changing the field in exciting ways.

Sarah: While many of our events are SLP-focused, we want to include a variety of professionals in Bright Conversations.

Shontaye: Exactly!

Sarah: We’ll have SLPs, of course, because that’s what we do and who we know! But we’re also inviting educators, parents, and entrepreneurs.

Shontaye: Entrepreneurship has been a major focus for us—we love helping people grow their businesses, whether it’s private practice, selling resources, or offering a service. Our guest list will be diverse!

Sarah: I'm so excited. We'll probably take turns hosting and invite experts for discussions on a range of topics.

Shontaye: I love that we can also follow up with conference presenters. Sometimes there’s not enough time to answer all the questions during a session, so this gives us a chance to dive deeper into important topics.

Sarah: Me too! Sometimes 60 minutes isn't enough to cover everything, and this podcast gives us a way to expand on those conversations.

Shontaye: One of our upcoming guests was a recent SLP Summit presenter, and he'll share more about his work and why he's so passionate about his field.

Sarah: I was trying to remember the other day—I think it's been seven, maybe eight years.

Shontaye: Yeah! We started it because we wanted more relevant, practical content. A lot of what was out there was very theory-based. While it’s important to understand the evidence behind what we do, we also need actionable strategies we can use right away.

Sarah: That’s where Bright Ideas Media came from, and it’s evolved into recorded courses and now, this podcast.

Shontaye: People are learning in new ways, and short-form content is more digestible. While long courses will always be needed, there’s a lot of value in having shorter, insightful discussions.

Sarah: So we thought—why not create our own short-form content? A 30-minute conversation where you can still learn and even earn professional development hours. It’s a way to get practical tools and take them back to your school, private practice, or hospital setting.

Sarah: No! Initially, we focused on pediatric and school-based SLPs because that’s our background, but we’re excited to branch out into healthcare and other settings.

Shontaye: Yes! We recently recorded a business-focused episode that I think people will love. More SLPs and educators are realizing they don’t have to stay in just one setting—they can explore entrepreneurship and other revenue streams.

Sarah: That was such a fun conversation! I won’t spoil it, but I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

Shontaye: Honestly, I get nervous knowing I’m being recorded. If it were just audio, I’d probably be more relaxed.

Sarah: Same! But I get why video is valuable. People like having that visual connection.

Shontaye: It’ll be interesting to look back at these early episodes and see how we improve over time.

Sarah: For sure! And even now, I feel like I’m getting a little more comfortable. It’s definitely a learning experience!

Sarah: The podcast will be available on all major podcast platforms. The video version will be on YouTube, and if you’re an ASHA CE member, you can earn CEUs by following the steps on the Bright Ideas Media website. We’ll also offer certificates for professional development hours.

Shontaye: That’s fantastic! It’s great to get credit for listening, but I think people will find it valuable regardless. The episodes we’ve recorded so far have been amazing, and I can’t wait to share them.

Sarah: Same! And we’d love to hear from listeners. Let us know what you think, suggest topics, or even recommend guests—maybe that’s you! We’re always open to new voices.

Shontaye: I’m so excited for this new journey!

Sarah: Me too! Thanks for joining us, and we’ll see you on the next Bright Conversation.

Shontaye: Bye!

Sarah: Bye!
